yeah, one hour's labor is a rip off - it takes about 5 seconds to enter the secret code
and yes, a new head unit is nice, but you are going to have to additionally purchase one of the following to make it work:
● beatsonic unit (about $325 if you are looking at the correct kit) - this is the no-brainpower-required option
● a separate subwoofer amp (this method is better and cheaper, but also requires some electrical engineering knowledge, more so than the beatsonic method above) - it also requires you run an additional set of wires under the carpet
double DIN or single DIN both work with the appropriate trim piece

But i also did not think it would be so difficult to put in an aftermarket headunit, isnt there anything thats simply plug and play? Not really bothered about losing the subwoofer to be honest, as long as there is some kind of music coming from the remaining speakers.

yeah, if you don't mind losing the subwoofer, then you can just replace the headunit
but that would be a real shame, kind of like going from a high end audio symphony to a transistor radio!
I mean, if that is the sentiment, then why even drive an LS400, just get a Taurus - lol
perhaps Yamae knows the secret code button press sequence!
