lock issue, need help
I recently purchased a 1999 Ls400. It's an awesome car, only 80K miles on it. However the driver side front door will not lock with the remote or the power button, it only works with the key. Am I looking at replacing the actuator? I've read the many posts on DIY ebay motor replacement. Dont want to go through that unless I have to.

I believe that if you were to lock/unlock the passenger door using the key, not the remote button, all doors should lock/unlock including driver's door. If they all do, except for the driver's one, then your actuator needs to be replaced.
On the driver's side, you'd need to turn the key toward unlock twice (towards the back of the car), quickly, to unlock all doors at the same time. If they all unlock except the driver's one, again it is your actuator that's giving you trouble.

2. Using the key on the passenger side, all doors except the drivers door lock and unlock.
3. Using the key on the driver side all doors unlock, drivers too. Can lock the drivers side with the key

That sounds like a wiring problem to me. Unless some of those wires go through that infamous wiring harness in the trunk, tied to the goose neck hinge, I don't know where I would start looking for problems... but if anyone was playing with the wiring due to after market installation of anything electrical (e.g. stereo, alarm, whatever), wherever they were working, that's where I would look at first.
The kind of problems that your average aftermarket installer can create can be amazing. I had a car that had problems only at certain speed, and that no one could figure out... until one smart mechanic figured that whoever installed the stereo created a little problem with ground wire that ECU was connected to, and that confused the ECU only at those certain speeds (the car was loosing power around 50mph, just as I would be accelerating on a highway, it used to drive me nuts to no end).

1. I need to correct an earlier post. using the remote, all doors except the driver door do lock. But, none open with the remote.
2. Using the key on the passenger side, all doors except the drivers door lock and unlock.
