Calling all hotrodders for the 1UZ
Gang
I was wondering if anyone here has done or knows what can be done to significantly raise the horsepower for the 1UZ? I would like to know if there are any reasonable upgrades that can extract more power from these solidly constructed V8's? I open to all ideas. Let me here from y'all.

the same thing you would do to any other engine...
define: "Reasonable"
intake flows alright, headers are mediocre, exhaust can be redone as the 5 mufflers and center merge aren't great, cams are very conservative, timing/fuel are very conservative (runs rich a bit), etc...

There are superchargers available, but they are LOTS of $$$$!
I know a guy on the Cressida Message board who had a supercharged 1UZ in his 89. The dyno results were close to the 500 horsepower range.
If my LS was totalled, i would take the engine out and find a 77' Celica Liftback to swap it into. That would be a sweet project!

The typical engine mods you'll see from most of ClubLexus's LS400 population will typically be a redone exhaust. 95% of the time, this is done for moar low and not really any real performance benefit (unless you count saving a few pounds/kilos). Look at Bullet Performance's 1UZ supercharger kit, since you seem like you want above average power. While they do cost a bit of money, they're probably the only semi*-plug and play solution available for superchargers. The downside is they're in Australia, but you can figure out shipping. A member by the name of JamesN is running a UCF10 with one of their supercharger systems so you could probably PM him (if he even gets on here anymore).
* I say semi-plug and play because you still may or may not need to provide parts of your own.
Aside from that, most hardcore power mods tend to be expensive, regardless of how custom or bolt-on it may seem. While it may not be as mainstream as a 2JZ, the 1UZ is definitely a solid platform to start off with.

A buddy of mine actually swapped a 1uz into his 75 celica... He said it was nothing like he's ever driven.. His F20c swapped '70 celica can't touch it
