Resetting ECU & Transmission ECU

I heard it could be done, does anyone have instructions on how to do it, both for the main engine ECU and the transmission ECU.

I believe the easiest way is to disconnect the ground from the battery for 20 to 45 minutes (depending upon who you ask here

)
