never heard of it happening when a new, correct OEM timing belt and tensioner were used and the crank and cam pulleys were checked for dryness (no oily-ness in the entire timing belt area inside the covers)

you can use 91% isopropyl alcohol to make sure every pulley etc. is oil free

did you use a new, correct OEM timing belt (Bando or Mitsuboshi or Toyota) and tensioner (NTN or Toyota) ?

also rotate the crank several times before final checking of marks (always rotate clockwise when viewed from front of car)

make sure both cam pulley marks line up, most of the time when this happens, only one of the pulleys is off the mark

You were dead on. I work right next to toyota and had a tech come over and look and he said I was suppose to take a screwdriver and pull up on the tensioner pulley to add more tension on the belt. the belt was just skipping teeth he showed me how loose it was then used a screwdriver and showed me the tension on the belt. I was like ah man i made such a silly mistake. Live and learn I guess. now she should be rocking
