Will your set up leave the OE sub hole on the rear deck as the only vent from the trunk to the interior?
Yes, it will stay the only vent into the cabin. If anything, my next subwoofer will be a little on the louder side, so it can compensate for that. If anything, I want to have a setup where all of the aftermarket goodies are sealed off from the "cargo" area (like, behind a plexiglas window, or something) since I had a minor issue around the holidays... lol

I designed this as an option for a pair of SD SA-10sto be ported out the stock sub hole...

I don't really know how well it would work as the volume is too big and the port velocity is too low for a kerfed enclosure but shrinking the depth down by 1-2" would probably get it back into the right range.

as is, with 8.75" depth and 1.5ft^3 volume per chamber plus the port volume, it should easily handle a couple of really powerful 10s with massive magnets, or even 12s!

Lots of discussions on that, just gotta search and you'll probably pull up dozens of quality threads on speaker replacements.

Well, I mean, that's all dependent on what you actually get. Like, if you're getting a newer, more powerful head unit, then you might be able to get away with just running the speakers off the head unit. Amping the speakers is always good (just try not to go overboard and blow them from too much power) haha.

What is your budget?
Do you wanna just stay with all of the OE locations or do you wanna do some cutting?
Are you looking for loud or more of a high sound quality type system?

I'm more familiar with the 2nd gen LS400 but I think you have 4" mids in the doors and a tweeter up on the sail in front. Single 8" subwoofer on the rear deck. Is this correct?

Hey Scope,
I decided to redesign the sub box to vent out the stock sub hole, with better dimensions for a pair of SA-10 D4 getting 600W each. Much better spacial specs for these subs in a ported design at 1ft^3 per sub plus port volume, keep in mind this is designed to fit a 95-97 truck setup.

I'm not sure this is what I will do or not but if anyone wants the plans i can email you all of the measurements as well as a couple of links how how to build this type of Box.

I still think i'm going to build sealed boxes that point up and forward toward the stock sub port, situated behind the taillights, with heavily isolated Air Zenith compressor adjacent to each sub with a pair of slim 5gal Aluminum air tanks mound off the deck and my amps in mounted in the box below the tanks and everything tucked away behind panelling to conceal everything and maximize trunk space.... Sort of like Schlitz did but a more efficient use of space. This would also give me the ability to retain a full size spare tire and emergency stuff in the tire well.

Seems like the best method to me.

Damn, that looks pretty sweet! Try see if you could make a diagram of how everything would look in the trunk

I did some more measuring and.......I do believe a 15" will fit in the center of the rear deck without cutting any of the main support/reinforced ribs. It will be close and the 3rd brake light will have to be replaced but.... I'm pretty stoked about this. Now I just gotta make sure it will drop in from the top.

LEXUSA400..............I hope that you plan to do some very serious reinforcement of your rear deck when you mount a 15 inch subwoofer. Otherwise you will have a rattling mess. That rear deck is very flimsy. Vibration is your enemy when mounting a subwoofer. Good luck!
