Default Suspension Question

One of my rear shocks has started to leak. I was quoted a price of $1,811 and change (parts & labor) to replace all four shocks and realign the car. Is this about right? What did it cost to replace the shocks in your LS?

standard non-air shocks?

$300ish for a set of KYBs, a six-pack of decent beer, and an afternoon.

Who'd you get a quote from? Dealership?

No not the dealership. He's the mechanic I've been going to for several years. I don't trust just anyone to work on my cars. But I thought this price was a bit high for a stock type shock replacement job. (Monroe Shocks)

monroe pieces of crap for 1800 usd? freaking rip-off.

the book labor on this job is like 8-10hrs TOPS, and any half-deent mech can do it in <4-5. Parts top out at 300-350.

Is anyone running H&R springs with KYB-G2 / Excel-G shocks?

I'm not but that would be a quality setup for just about any car.

good setup but do NOT pay that much for labor. as PD said, it should be a 4-5 hr job with a competent mechanic.

I'm pretty sure he is running the H&R's on stock struts.

For $1800+ you could have some really nice coil overs, camber arms, toe arms and RCA's installed and aligned from most shops!

That price is wildly expensive!

If you want some stock springs and shocks you can just bolt in, I have a used quality set you can have for $500!
Lol!

Simple answer age. The suspension is15yrs old, his suggestion was to replace them in pairs. I asked him for a price to do all four.

It is industry standard to replace shocks in axel pairs....
On an older car, replacing all of them at once is called preventative maintenance, and hardly a reason to change mechanics.

The price on the other hand is entirely a reason to find a new shop...
