Default Brake Wear Sensor; Brake Wear Light for model 93 and up

Starting 93 LS they have put on the brake wear sensor on all four wheels. I can live without it as those sensors cost too much to replace. It is a nice warning devise to save rotors but those sensors cost more then rotors. What gives.

I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way about the brake wear sensor and there may have beeen a thread regarding the issue. So the question is how is everyone living with the brake warning light on the dashboard. I am thinking of cutting the line for the light at the dashboard but that is a break in the process. Any better suggestion?

If your sensor is bad you can just cut the end off and wire the two wires together completing the circuit and that will shut off the sensor light. The brake wear sensor is not that expensive to replace either

I lived with the brake sensor light on for awhile after replacing my rear brakes. I finally got around to jumping the wires together and it went away. It's a nice feature for the people who cant tell when there brakes are shot.......

if i recall correctly the sensors are only located on the passenger side front and rear brakes, not all four wheels. they can be bypassed as synical stated but why when they aren't that expensive.

Default Brake Wear Sensor

I din't know there were only 3 sensors. One on front-right and two on rear. Got it.

Well, the last time I've checked, which was a while ago (5 years??), only OEM was available. Price was between $50 and $60 each.

Checking the rockauto today, sensor price ranges from $27 to $176. Some ranges for detecting the brake wear. Now a question I have would be, why would anyone purchase $176 sensor when you would have to replace them at the next brake job? Actually, $176 exceeds the value of a rotor!

There should be only two sensors and both of them are on the passenger side only, front and rear. I'm sure with the brake wear sensor you don't have to go oem on it. If you don't need a warning light to tell you your brake pas is low/bad then you can just bypass it and the light will go away
