Think I just cooked my PS pump...
So I have had an ongoing minor PS leak that I have been trying to track down, but was was out on a longer drive this morning and suddenly the pump started to groan. Couldn't pull over for about 20mins and the groan got only slightly worse. When I finally got to a gas station to check the fluid level, the reservoir dip stick was dry and the fluid I see was very brown. Added 200ml of dexron and the noise for the lessened but did not go away. I cycled the system a few times and rechecked the level and everything was fine.
I'm going flush the system a few times in the hopes I didn't kill the pump; but if I did, are the LS rack and PS system of the type that if one goes, you have to replace both? I know of a lot of German cars that if the pump or rack goes, the debris and crap get cycled through the system, it takes out the other part very quickly. I'm hoping not as that's $450 I'd rather not spend.
Now I really have to find that leak too!
