finally got some time to work on the car today. Drained the fluid, dropped the pan, replaced the filter. I also checked for any loose wires and tested the ohms on the solenoids. All were around 10.5 and 11.5 ohms. (Battery was disconnected). I also bent the connectors a little to make sure there was a good contact. Some of the guys on the GS forums were having some luck with that. Fluid was bad and filter was definitely due for a change. There was NO debris at all on the magnets.
Once back together and testing results, my harsh engagements into reverse or drive from park were no longer happening. Jerking into gear on up shifts were no more. BUT STILL... When coming to a stop car wants to shutter on the last 20mph. It's like it doesn't want to come out of 4th or 3rd. There are no codes, (for now) but I'm sure it will pop back up after driving around some more. I'm probably have a full diagnostic done on the trans. Perhaps get the caps done.
Any thoughts? I've been reading all over the forums. Most stories end at the drain and filter change.

Also forgot to mention that i am able to manually downshift through the gears just fine. It's only when i keep it in drive it wants to shutter to a stop.

97 LS400 with 200k just do not tend to have transmission issues, at all (at least not any that a fluid and filter change won't cure!)

being in Florida and being a 97, this sounds like a textbook case of failing ECU capacitors

What's the significance of the car being from Florida - heat, humidity or both? Coming from the north of England not problems I am familiar with! [I knew I'd find a benefit of living in a cold climate if I waited long enough]. Seriously though, are cars from a cool climate less likely to suffer from capacitor problems?

we don't fully understand it, but hot and humid Florida has ECU capacitor issues reported at a higher rate than any other place, although locations around the world are affected, just not at such an extremely high rate.

also cars that have sat for extended periods, this is also very hard on ECU caps, capacitors are like tiny batteries, and we know that batteries that sit for a long time without being used tend to go bad fast. - This is why any ECU from a junkyard or ebay should have its caps replaced ASAP.

UPDATE.... I had the caps redone on my ecu. Still.... The shuttering remains. On a better note, acceleration feels better. Don't know what to do about this now. I've done everything I could do myself. Any suggestions?

I had the mount done a year ago. Could there be something going on with the rear end to cause the shuttering and clunking that I'm getting?

You pulled the code that said it was a faulty solenoid, didn't you?

Ok so with the work already performed, I am beginning to lean towards a torque converter issue. Did some research and the symptoms are very similar. I know these TCS don't normally have problems but I'm kind of forced to consider it

If that ends up being your issue. I still have my old trans and convertor.
