2000 LS400 problem with steering wheel adjust
We recently had our LS400 detailed and when we got it back the steering wheel was stuck in a low position. It will telescope in and out but won't go up or down It makes a "whistle" sound when you push up and no sound when you push down.
I tried a search and saw one post that stated a fix for this feature can run $2K Hopefully someone knows any easy fix. New to forum and thanks in advance for any advice on solving this issue.

Yes, 2000 LS400's made later in the model year had revised tilt and telescope motors. I do not know if adding washers behind a sprocket or reversing a sprocket will work to fix the problem like it did on earlier LS400's.
My 2000 was built in June 2000 so I was lucky to get the revised parts installed at the factory ... haven't had any problems ... yet.
Here again is that TSIB dated May 19, 2000..
Yep, keepin' 'em real sharp ... never know when I'm going to need one of them blades ... uh huh ...

What about small electric motor rebuilding services? I bet they could put new brushes in those without much fuss. These little motors aren't too terribly scary once you open them up.... unlesss of course everything looks okay, then i guess it's time to replace!

The newer style motors do not have brushes; they are electronically commutated and are totally controlled by the electronics.

Hi,
I have the same problem my 1999 Ls.Not tilt and telescopic steering column.First only noisy the two motor, after little time broken both motor.
My friend electro genius. He dismantled motor house and he astonished.Magnetic motor: Egads: Correct name: permanent magnet stepper motor. Not included normal electric motor copper roll.Only magnet and porcelain internal. Not associated parts from web. Therefore not repairable.Just replace complete two motor : Cry:
The same problem Land Cruiser 100.Motor is very expensive.I not change.
If know solution this problem(ebay or etc...) please report.
Pictures my tilt motor.
Thanks.

Mine failed with the column in the UP position.
Used vise grips to turn it and lower the column until it was where I like to drive it and haven't thought about it since.
Sux that these fail. I believe the programming to completely raise and then lower the wheel at every key insert wears the tilt motor unnecessarily.
Oh well.
