Yes you can unbolt the frame but you might have to apply lots of pressure with a crowbar or something similar to actually create space. This is what I did while my friend/helper wiggled the drivers side into place.

That is what we did on my 1991. We had a support at the rear of the engine about where it connects to the transmission - there was a place with two thick flanges against each other.

thanks, seems like its easier doing that than lifting the engine up.
IS the engien subframe part of the suspension subframe as well? As in will the lower control arms and rack come down with it? I havent looked at it yet in person.

I didn't have to drop the subframe. Just make sure you unbolt the heater valve and you should be able to get it up high enough.

Edit: nevermind, forgot about your exhaust. Why don't you unbolt from the cats? That would probably be easier than dropping your subframe.

I'm sorry but that I cannot remember. We did loosen the forward pointing bars so that we could move the knuckles away. Ours was a two person job.
