I think the prices for clean "driver" cars have hit bottom. If you have a clean, sorted car in the right spec... I don't think you'll lose anything in depreciation by owning it.

I doubt they'll skyrocket in value, but as a driver car I think it'll still be something enjoyable for those looking for the old "boat" luxury feel. I'm optimistic for the next 3-5 years that I'll own this car. Especially once I sort out my wonky suspension.

yea i imagine that really clean examples with low miles (because very low miles excites people for some reason) will definitely begin to appreciate

ughhh to have been the original owner of a new LS 400... the 80s and 90s were the time to be wealthy

WELL NOW I AM GOING ON 86... AND STILL DRIVING MY/OUR 99, AND IT LOOKS NEW.... have spent more on it last 2 years, but I am happy with it

Default Fewer good ones but classic

Tend to agree that the great vintage LS4’s are getting fewer and far betw - but when you see one, wow you know - what a classic over engineered and great vehicle. Any Lexus Master Mechanic will tell you the 98-00 LS400 and 01-06 LS430 are without a doubt the finest cars Lexus made before the bean counters started “value engineering for profit” The mighty LS4 was when Lexus determined to conquer the S and 7 series by making a better more reliable true lux sedan - how many 90’s Merc S amd BMW 7’s you think are running with out LS400’s???

i am the 2nd owner since 2004 of a 99 LS 400 w only 125k mi and it’s by far and away the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. Am thinking of selling but can’t hardly bring myself to part w it (see pics in post below)

my 99 just turned 125k and drives perfect as well
they really are something buid quality and how they were engineered- even more so impressed as they now turn 20 yrs or more older - shows wat an amazing job Lexus did that first decade and why they cracked the lux market and changed the equation bs MB/BMW etc - early LS4’s thru 2000 were almost a MB Maybach of its time!

I was thinking, I still hate the new Lexii even worse now that I was drugged by a senseless video on how whoopty doo the latest LS allegedly is.

I am thinking, now that Lexus has shot themselves in the foot with their plummeting quality and Lost Pursuit of Perfection, the first generation LS is due for renewed interest in the collector market. And as modern life begins to annoy more and more people with its ever more complex complexity, I think we will evolve from bells and whistles wowee, back to the joys of intrinsic quiet quality. I derive total satisfaction drawing up to my little LS sitting out there in the parking lot ... apologizing to no one.

The newer ones don’t feel nearly as nice and solid inside. Take it from a former 2 time LS400 owner and current LS460 owner. It’s a trade off in the end. The LS460 does some things better than the LS400 and vice versa. The true negative aspect of LS400 ownership today is actually two things: Age of the car and continued availability of spare parts.

Is this light by the seat switches on all the 98-00, or something you installed? All these years I've never seen a pic of that light. Is it also the headrest switch or does that not exist? Just wondering cuz I might be interested in getting a newer LS.

I think that light is the sun, a no-cost option that only occasionally works.
