Actually I know of at least one where my friends, after they bought their new cars, went to test them and race; it cost them a pretty penny though
One had his breaks overheat in no time and ended up in the gravel, missing the wall by >this< much. Others fared better.
No restrictions on speed was in place. They just paid good money to do exactly what is discussed here.
Even on a race track, I don't think that was a smart thing to do, especially with stock tires and breaks... but at least they would not hurt anyone but themselves.
One of the cars was Honda S2000 - it fared better than beemers but that's a whole new discussion.
I see nothing wrong with letting imagination run a little wild, as long as we all know that doing something like that on a public road is about as reckless as driving drunk.
