the corrosion under the positive battery cable to terminal nut is not due to being loose, it is due to a scientific phenomenon known as galvanic corrosion - Yamae and I have both given technical explanations on this in the past.
I am also not talking about Galvanic corrosion, I am talking about simple oxidation and RUST; aka corrosion.
I also did not suggest that galvanic corrosion is caused by the terminal being loose, I stated that I saw corrosion [at the terminal on the fuse panel that I depicted] AND signs of arcing due to the nut being loose [at same said terminal].
Simple fact is, if the nut is loose on that terminal, it can cause arcing. Arcing can cause holes in any form of coating/plating (zinc/nickel) that resists corrosion/rust. Once this coating/plating is compromised, corrosion/oxidation/rust can form on the surfaces. If left unchecked, this can spread beyond the original point of arcing.
