Why ACV on PS Pump Fail

Very nice writeup, but I want to clarify one point. The ACV is simply a way to boost engine RPM during steering load when engine is idling. This is accomplished by introducing a little filtered air into the manifold, causing the engine to run a bit faster. The ACV is simply in a normally closed state, until the PS pump output pressure rises (when the steering wheel is turned) at which point the valve opens and allows air to pass through. It doesn't matter which hose is connected to which port nipple; neither port goes anywhere inside the valve itself (unless it's orings are failing...leading to the oil burning\white smoke symptoms), just think of it as an on/off switch, simply allowing air to pass through, or not.
