1998 with 104500 miles.
Just behind the rubber drain plug at the front outer of the pic......also look at the outer seam where the body lip is, looks like some poor welds there, not factory looking to me.

I agree. But overall the first one looked better than the one I tried yesterday. This one had oil seeping on the rear of the engine by thr bolt. The owner runs M1. It drove effortlesslly compared to the first one. Speeding without noticing was a concern during the test drive. But the body had a few chips the size of a nickel/dime. The transmission felt like a new one, not making the driver feel shift changes. The first Lexus, I felt the car shook a little when stationary while changing gears from D to N to R etc. As if it wanted to move. It happens in older cars but the Lexus I drove yesterday was not like that.

The owner said he had the hood struts replaced because they had stopped working.

Could just be a leaking valve cover. I bought my car with a leaking valve cover tighten the bolts never had a leak since.

Well, good mechanical is more important than paint chips IMO, are the ships really going to bug you? I don't mind on mine, its old but solid, no trans shake or anything, 332000km (220kmiles?)
