98 ls400 ? About rear noise from rear differential
Hi guys I was wondering if this noise is normal. I did a caliper change along with rotors and when I put the rear tire back on i kinda turned the wheel back and forth just a little bit and i hear a clicking noise from the differential box. Is this a normal noise or is something going bad. It drives normal. Thanks

on LS400, very few components ever go bad, that is why we love these cars!
here is a list of some things that do go bad on LS400, if it's not on the list, then it's not likely having any problems!
● alternator (not alternator's fault, alt. is actually extremely reliable, but power steering fluid leaking into it kills it)
● power steering fluid leaks
● strut bar bushings
● lower EGR pipe
● transmission mount
● motor mounts
● cigarette lighter fuse link
● climate LCD display
● radio LCD display
● upper control arms
● positive battery terminal
● idle speed control valve (aka idle air control valve)
● ECU capacitors
● vacuum hoses (normal to be deteriorated in a car of this age)
● AFM (MAF) on 94 and earlier (killed by folks cleaning them with solvent)
● oil control valves getting dirty ('98 and newer)
● dirty throttle body
● wiring harness breakage in driver's side trunk hinge (94 and earlier)
● starter solenoid contacts and plunger (commonly referred to as a bad starter)
● cluster issues including speedo and tach
● other suspension components (bushings, ball joints etc. - this is normal in a car of this age)
● CD changer
notice that I didn't mention the most expensive systems on the car, i.e. engine, transmission, A/C, catalytic converters, etc? - cool, huh?

the transmission motor mount for sure, those seem to break every 100,00 miles or less - and it's only around $40 at Sewell with our discount and it only takes 5-10 minutes to install
the fancy fluid filled main motor mounts are for if you want to be able to stack the champagne glasses on your engine at high RPM like the LS400 commercial, so replacing those is a bit more of a luxury!
