Default Rearview Mirror Dimming Trouble

The 1993 LS400 rear view mirror isn't automatic, but you press a button to make it dim whenever you want. It's great. My original mirror had a splotch of some sort on the glass. I just replaced the glass with a salvaged mirror, and now there's a problem: It seems that the "new" salvaged mirror's natural state is dim. When I turn the car off (or unplug the glass from the control board), it goes dim. When I turn the car back on (or plug it back in) the mirror stays dim until I push the button. It works the exact opposite of the way it should! the wires are connected in the same order. The fact that the glass dims as soon as it stops receiving power leads me to believe it is the glass itself, not the board. Or am I wrong, and this is how it is supposed to be, and my original mirror was wrong? I find that hard to believe.

I appreciate any insight you may have. Thanks.

you wired it wrong, not getting +12v when hot.

If it was from a different year LS it would have been wired slightly differently

I had wondered that, but my old mirror does not go dim when power is removed. This glass is behaving differently. The salvager said it was a '93.

Yeah, when I first noticed I figured it would just undim when the battery kicked on, but it didn't.
