Finally bought a 95 LS - Bad news needs rear differential - Where to find one
As the title says just bought a very clean 95 with a bad differential. Drained the fluid found what I thought I would, metal chunks.
Does anyone have a good place to find one? I have looked on ebay found a few, prices vary. Most with unknown miles.
Any help would be greatly appreciated so I can start driving this beauty. I'll post pictures soon.
I'm located in Central Massachusetts.

Yeah the west coast has all the parts so you might have to sit and wait til one pops up. Did you call any to see what the shipping would cost? You might have to bite the bullet on there or ebay. I find sometimes other junkyards don't post ALL the parts so you might want to call some that list other parts of the car and see. That has worked for me several times.

159k. Looks like the input shaft seal was leaking for a while and no one changed it. So it leaked out until there was hardly any diff fluid left and I am guessing the input shaft bearing is toast. Once I get the replacement I plan on take a look inside the bad one.

Ok, that makes sense. I was under the impression the unit failed under normal driving conditions without signs of wear. Clearly this is the result of poor maintenance/inspection.
Glad to hear she'll be back on the road soon
I guess I am fortunate to live in CA with an abundance of LS400's at local salvage yards. I also live very close to Sunrise Blvd Sacramento aka dismantler heaven
