Default How many miles on your clock ?

Hi Guys,

This has probably been sorted before, but I am just curious anyway.

My mk3 1995 has around 122,000 miles on the clock, and apart from a few little exterior stone chips, is as good as new !

Are there many / any other cars with the longevity of these baby's ?

Thx.

1992 LS 400.. 348,000 KM 217,500 Miles.
Still running like new. I'm hoping I'll hit atleast 400,000 km, then it's time to upgrade to a new one! Still in College though so will have to wait till my degree is finished.

100K here on my 95.

Runs great, except that suspension popping noise in the front.

Wouldn't say it's as smooth as new although I don't know how smooth they are new, but it's pretty darn good for a car with 100K. Engine sounds smooth but is quite auidble under heavy accelleartion, I was expecting quieter engines from Lexus, but I think Infiniti has spoiled me, their engines are SILENT.

Really? What do you have for a model?

Lexus has always had by far the lowest sound levels in every magazine i've read over the last 10 years.. Other companies have caught up these days, but in the 90s they couldn't be touched..
Highway cruising has always been close, but as far as db level at idle or full throttle..

Default Hi Horta

Thx for the link to that poll - some interesting stuff there. Isn't it great to see "our" cars with such high mileages.

At great risk of sounding repetitive, how many other cars do you see with numbers around 250,000 miles and sill looking so good.

Hi Christian,

Thanks for the reply.

That is a lot of miles, but the way to go is certainly nice long journeys at a steady speed on the motorway / autobahn.

All the same 250,000 + is a long way.

Great stuff.

A 95 LS400. At idle it's silent and cruising on the fwy it's silent, but 1st and 2nd gear at like anything over 2500 RPM you can just start to barely hear it, where as my friend's 98 maxima with 70K miles is unnoticable at 4000. The sound is smooth and deep, but still I would've thought it'd be less apparent when accellerating heavily. Still way better then my g/f's v6 camry.

Angry HIGH MILES

Lightyear,
I have a 1990 LS400 with 137,000 miles. She runs great and the only problem I've ever had was replacement of the rear transmission seal. I want to mod her out but I'm concerned about the mileage. Any comments regarding this?

My 91 LS has 135,000 miles. I have in the 18 months replaced the following items, starting at about 120,000 miles. New A/C evap coil & expansion valve. A/C compressor, Power Steering pump.
Rear engine seal, (trans removal required) new water pump, timing belt.
changed all front oil seals at the time of water pump and timing belt replacement, for preventive reasons!
New struts, new lower ball joints, new front rotors.
I have both front upper control arms being shipped (301.00 ea) and will replace next week, to stop the clicking noise up front when going over small bumps. I checked the sway bar bushings, and they were fine. The control arms look easy to install, so I will do these myself.

I have spent more money on this car for repairs, than all cars I have owned combined in my lifetime. (age 49) But I still love this car more than any car I have ever owned, and would not think for a second about getting another car. I have done much of the work myself, and the other work was done by a certified Lexus mechanic who I recruited, who works on weekends for extra money. It would be difficult to pay full Lexus dealer shops rates on these cars as they age and need repair. I also would not want anyone working on the car who was not an expert. These are unique cars, and the average mechanic not familiar with an LS can easily mess things up.
After my experience, I do not recommend an older Lexus to someone who cannot afford to pay for SOME repairs. I now fully expect my car to run the next 100,000 miles with little repairs etc. I have learned form this forum that the repairs I have made cover almost all the normal part that wear out in the first 150,000 miles.

My wife drives a 2001 RX300 we bought new, and loves it more than any car she has ever owned! It only has 27,000 miles and had needed no repairs other than normal service.
