Failing engine, maximum speed of 3000 rpm and red exhaust, what can be?
Hello,
When I bought my 1993 LS400 had some problems, including the engine failing, panel lights flashing, rotating no more than 3000 rpm, and a strong smell of sulfur and exhaust turning red.
He was appointed to replace the capacitors (as post https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...pacitor-3.html).
However, before I start this service, bought another ECU used and exchanged by the former. The car returned to work perfectly. I used it for 6 months and had to keep it for a while.
Now, after three months with the car off and discharged battery, again presented the same problem. So did maintenance as above, replacing the capacitors with a specialist. But the problem remains.
I know to change the ECU again problems will be solved. But does anyone know how to avoid this problem? I need help.
Thank you all.

Can you get any error codes? If the ECU capacitors were replaced with the correct ones, the ECU would not be the problem unless the PCB was damaged.
We can make suggestions but throwing parts at it is going to be costly. Not knowing the past history some usual items that contribute to the car running properly are:
ECT-engine coolant temp sensor
Crank shaft position sensor
O2 sensors
Vacuum lines
Tuneup items like plugs, caps rotors, ignition wires and checking that the ignition coils are functioning.

Hello PureDrifter, thanks for the response.
The ignition problem you say is related to cables, coils, etc.?
The starting is normal. After starting the car is failing and no more than 3000 rpm. An important detail, when replacing the ECU everything back to normal.
Is there any security system in the ECU? If yes, how to reset?
Thank you.
