Maybe I'll order this one instead. Looks like this one is zinc coated, and appears to be identical to the Denso part at Rockauto that comes without the strainer. And the price is right.

Oh, and does three hours labor sound about right for replacing the fuel pump?

I'm concerned about that too, but the garage that's doing the repair has a decent track record with Lexus, and-so they say-tested everything they could and the only problem they could find was the pump itself. So keeping my fingers crossed....

But just so it doesn't get lost, does three hours labor seem reasonable for replacing the pump?

I think 3 hours is too much time. 2 at the most.

Hey All.

Decided to go ahead and order the Denso pump from Amazon, had it installed, and everything is working perfectly again.

Now the only remaining question is what would have caused an internal short in the fuel pump in the first place. Hopefully, this isn't a problem that rears its head again any time soon.

Diagnosis and labor to install the new part was $310.00 (diagnosis was a flat $92, and took them a couple hours).

Pump and gasket were $110.00 from Amazon.

Towing was $80, but I'll get $50 back from insurance.

So I'm in for $450 total. I suppose I could have tried to put the part in myself, but honestly, being fuel related and with my wife and kids in the house? Probably not a great idea for a relatively inexperienced person like myself to have tried it in the garage.

Not happy to be out the $450, but really glad to have her back up and running well!

Thanks for all the help!

Glad that your up and running and what's done is done so no need to dwell on it. The pump was just probably at it's end of life.

Hope everything is OK now. As a guy who always think the reason why for 5 times, I would investigate why the fuel pump alone was dead.

As sha4000 mentioned, I also hope that it was just at it's end of life. But according to my past experience at different shops where I visit, there were many re-occurring the same problem caused by the dirty fuel tank. Some were rusted out and others contained some unusual small particles or debris.
