Default Replacing Lower Ball Joints w/ or w/o Control Arm (1996)

So I had an independent mechanic tell me that he could not replace the lower ball joint on my 96 LS400 without replacing the lower control arm as well. Is this right?

he's an idiot, the front lower ball joints are separate pieces.
In the front.

Find another shop and tell everyone you know to stay away from this one. Like PD said they are 2 separate pieces.

mechanic is either not knowledgeable and/or is pulling a fast one on you. the ball joint comes off separately from the knuckle and attaches to the lower arm.
