Default A little confused on instrument cluster repair

Okay, so I've been reading the threads on "sticking needles" and wrote to a source listed in the threads:

I found your info on the Club Lexus Forums and I wanted to check with you regarding my newly-acquired LS400’s cluster.

• The speedo needle does not go down to zero, and stops at 69 and 82 MPH.
• The tach needle is not smooth and sometimes doesn’t change
• The gas needle goes to full after a fuel stop, but doesn’t respond to lower tank levels.

I am assuming the lube they used is gummed up, and I think you’re the expert on that? Could it be capacitors?

Also, are there other services you perform while you’re in there?
I got this response:

For the 1990-2000 LS400 the base fee is $49.99 and includes diagnosis, testing and inspection. Return shipping back to you via Fedex Ground is $14.99.

We will contact you after diagnosis with the findings and specific required and recommended repairs before proceeding with any repairs.

The gauge movement is not related to lube/gummed up issues or capacitors. We won't know the exact repairs required for your instrument cluster until we complete the diagnosis. Sometimes preventative repairs can be done to resolve the issue (i.e. for your RPM gauge), but in the worst case scenario, if any of the stepper motors need to be replaced they are $100 each and have a 1 year warranty.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. Thank you!
Now, did I ask the right questions? Am I not understanding my symptoms?

Thanks, gang...

Don

I assume you are dealing with Tanin. Yes, you are not understanding the causes of the problems - it most certainly is not a "lube" problem. Why don't you let Tanin evaluate your cluster and tell you what needs to be done.
