Tips on Cleaning Panels below shift ****
Hey everyone,
I have recently acquired a 1996 LS 400. I've been doing a ton of detailing on the interior the past week and also had all the upholstery replaced.
One thing that bugs me is the panel below the shift **** in my LS. It looks like it's formed some air bubbles and a lot of dirt.
How would I go about removing it and cleaning it? Or would this be something that has to be replaced?

I have noticed that liquid getting spilled into the spaces hastens the delamination. Cup holders are great, great for spilled drinks that go into the gear selector and neutral safety switch and causing sticky messes. Dad's Corolla is good in that respect, most spills are self contained in the holder. In the Lex, that whole console is Newer Lexus cars are far better in respect to cup holders.

They are still better than alot of the other early 90's Toyotas! MY 91 Camry had the cup holders pop out of a slot right in front of the radio, so the radio was inaccessible if you had anything in them.
Mercedes ML320s are pretty lousy too, and alot newer.. Theirs are on the dash right in front of the side vents, and only about 1/2 an inch tall.. so when you put the brakes on your drinks fall forwards and empty their contents into your vents and HVAC system.
But I digress... when else am I going to bring those up?

I replaced them in my 95 and my wifes 00. It was one of the few things that gave away the cars age. I ordered mine from lexus pembroke pines. They were about $65 each + 10% shipping. Considering how it was the only glaring flaw in both cars, and how economical the cars had been otherwise, it seemed like they deserved a bit of a splurge. It's not very difficult to replace. Just tedious, like most interior stuff on the LS. Just be careful with all those brittle plastic pieces.
I had the idea of possibly taking a ink cartridge refill kit with a needle and injecting the black ink to lessen the contrast between the good areas and the areas with delamination. Might be worth a try.
