Replacing Pioneer head unit with aftermarket HU (Sub working)

so to clarify, i have questions (which may have been addressed in the other threads, for which i apologize in advance):
- did you even use an aftermarket wire harness to make your own mating harness? i would think you could use a metra or scosche mating harness and put on RCAs instead of directly connecting to the HU speakers.
- why not just directly connect the speaker inputs to the HU harness? why use RCA? i hope this method does not only work with your particular HU with a particular signal output.

I can answer the RCA question:
On regular headunits (aftermarket) the speaker outputs are amplified, you cannot/do not send amplified signals to an amplifier. The OEM headunit sends an unamplified signal to the OEM amp.
RCA outputs on headunits are USUALLY not amplified, aka Pre-Amp.
