PCV & smoking- Very Strange. Stumped....
Hello all, I am quite stumped with this one. When i purchased the car, the breather hose to the PCV valve was blanked off. Ran perfectly, no smoke, and idle was fine. This is how it looked.
Now, ever since i reconnected the hose to the PCV valve, I've noticed it smokes heavily on start, both cold and when hot, and under load, uphill for example........ Strange how this has happened since reconnecting it but was fine before? The smoke is white/ blue, definitely not black. Uses no coolant, no oil, and I have checked all levels and everything looks fine. No overheating, and car pulls and sounds and idles perfectly fine. Also, I read about it could maybe be power steering being burned but definitely not that as no PS leaks etc and I blanked the PS valve pipes to check and it still smokes awfully. Maybe it is a bad PCV valve?? But would a bad PCV valve cause this smoke?
Any help greatly appreciated as the smoke it getting embarrassing now. Many thanks James. (98 LS400)

i suspect the PCV valve is bad. it's cheap and easy to replace so i would do that first. no need to get an OEM part for such a simple valve.
most white smoke is caused by the power steering but i see you already researched that. if i read it right, you bypassed the IACV already? "blanked the PS valve"

Yes, I'd replace the PCV valve as you're probably sucking oil back through the intake when you plug the hose back up due to the valve not working properly. And on a 98 with miles on it you might also want to look into getting a new grommet also as it may be hard and brittle and break off when you attempt to pull the PCV valve off... no need to ask my how I know

Yes Timmy0tool i blanked it off and it still smoked. Couldn't see any power steering fluid in the end of the pipes either when i looked, and not losing fluid so surely couldn't be that
