OmariMack I can see that I never did reply a big THANK YOU to you for the useful and accurate information you've given me over 3 yrs. ago, thanks much. I've decided to live with the 450 code rather change out the ecu again, for it is far better than the "220" that was recalled. I don't know when I'll ever get around to replacing it if I do, but it is a little annoying seeing the cel on all of the time, I don't think it negatively affects the engine's operation although I am having a doorlock synchronization issue, don't know if that's an ecu issue though. Minor issues that I can live with I guess. Happy New Year to you and thanks again.

You are absolutely welcome...I think it better for you to change ecm to not use 50303, That's 50303 for 1996 Lexus Ls 400 only who have a vapor pressure sensor.. if you want to keep live with the code, it will turn more code again even you had "check engine light on" forever also you will get car trouble again

I found a rebuilt 50225 ECU and it should arrive next week, And im returning the 50303 ECU. I can't live with the CEL on 😝 it just bothers me, and if I ever get another code I won't know.
I'm curious to see how the 50225 behaves as it's even more uncommon than 50224, but I hope it should be the same.
if there was a 50224 available at the same time I would have bought that one, but because the 50225 was available I didn't want to miss it and have to wait for a 50224.
I will report back my experience with the 50225!

Relentlex good points about the constant cel, you've motivated me to change the '303 to a '224 or '225 but it will have to wait until Spring because its too cooooold to deal with it now. I look forward to your assessment once you've made the change. Good luck and Happy New Year.

Good idea! That's ok the spring isn't that far away plus getting the glove box off the second time should be a breeze. It was a bit of an annoying job for a first timer like me. But this time around should be easier.
I'll be back with an update

Great! Let us know what the result after 2 or 3 days when you installed ecm with the 50225

Update:
sorry for the late update but the 50225 ECU got here a little over a week ago. Installing the ECU a second time was so much faster and easier. About 15minutes now that I know how to do it.
I ran the ECU for a few days and no issues at all. No CEL anynore. And the throttle shock is eliminated when letting off the throttle, which was my main reason to update the ECU.
also my car used to idle a little weird when cold, rev up to 2000-2200rpm and go down from there. Now with the 50225 it starts better and goes right to approximately 1400rpm and goes down from there. The 50303 ecu did the same to my car but it had the CEL on.
now it's all fixed so I'm happy
Thanks Omari for the help

Good job relentlex, I'll be doing pretty much the same ecu upgrade sometime this Spring, we could swap cars and we wouldn't even notice the difference, same year and color, if you have the tan interior then they are identical, is this great minds thinking alike or what?

I just found research on Lexus website parts ,There are no vapor pressure sensor on 1990 to 1995 Lexus LS 400 only.
1996 to 2000 Lexus ls 400 does have an vapor pressure sensor
1996 ecm # is 89661-50303 = 1996 Ecm WILL NOT work in a 95 lexus ls400. It will turns the check engine light on and throw error code from: P0450
You need to return to ecm back who you brought it from
----------------------------------------------------------------
For 1995 Lexus ls400 :
Your original Ecm is either:
89661-50220 or 89661-50221 if Federal (49 state). Lexus new replacement on the TSB says to replace with 89661-50224
If California then your original Ecm is either 89661-50230 or 89661-50231. The TSB calls for 89661-50234
But searching a local Lexus parts site shows that number has been replaced with 89661-50235-85. (California)
QUOTE=RelentLex;10394594]I've also just found a 50225 ecu. Anyone know the difference between 50224 and 50225??

Omarimack.....its been awhile but I want to update you on "what just happened". As I mentioned earlier, I swapped out my ECM "220" with the "303" several yrs. ago, and ever since then I've been getting the 450 cel code(fuel evap sensor). It never affected the performance so I just lived with it. I've just noticed in the past few days the cel has "disappeared", and voila! No more codes. That's the first time that has ever happened with my 95 LS. Usually, the code would stay on until I erase them, and shortly thereafter they would come back. I have no idea why it corrected itself, especially since I thought this car did not have a evap sensor which is why we thought the ECM was triggering the code. Not only did the "450" go away, but the persistent "420" and "430" codes cleared as well. Who knows, maybe they will reappear but for the past week its been all clear. Fingers crossed but I just thought I would update you since we last discussed this issue. Cheers.
