Radiator Overflow Bottle Leak
1993 LS400 87,000 mi
I occasionally fill the radiator bottle to the fill line. After a few weeks about half of the bottle contents leaks out or boils out from the top of the plastic bottle.
Is there a way to repair the bottle? I think the top edge of the bottle is made out of metal. My garage suggested to get a new one from Toyota.
Thanks in advance.

If you look at the top of the coolant overflow tank, the thing other than the fill cap is a round cap for the coolant level sensor. There is an o-ring under there that is a common source of leaks (90099-14129 for my '91). And of course the fill cap too. Sometimes the tank itself has a crack, but hopefully it is one of those easier things.
It's good that at least you know the leak is in the vicinity of the overflow tank. BTW, nothing should leak and no coolant should need to be added other than a tiny amount for evaporation over a long time. The pressure release mechanism on the "radiator cap" (on the coolant overflow tank here) should let overfilled or overpressurized coolant flow through the hose coming out the side and then down to the ground without covering your engine with coolant. So everything there should be dry, in case that is not obvious.

I had the same leak tried new o ring and than new sensor with o ring. Than i read this was a issue with the early models so i ordered a whole new tank. Putting it in was a snap and so far no leaks. Also came with new sensor installed.

Another thread mentioned a redesign of the tank due to cracking and leaks.
