15 Years of Evolution
Pretty amazing what 15 years of innovation and "The Pursuit of Perfecton" will do to a car. Cool to see some buttons and switches from the more senior 400 in the same places on the much younger 460 sibling. Although the designs of the LS line has gone from rather conservative to more sharp and sporty (in my mind) there are still traces of the past dribbled into the current cars. Seeing these two next to eachother really makes me appreciate and love my 400, the 400 started an amazing series of vehicles, a series that for 25 years has transormed into something amazing. I love that in a way the elder LS is able to park right next to the new one and still have a gorgeous, serious stance although it has aged and is nearing 110,000 miles. The designs are flawless and timeless. In the town where both these vehicles reside, the 400's seem to be getting rarer and rarer to find, especially those in good condition as the newer 460's carry on the torch of providing outstanding reliability, comfort and quality to Lexus owners while the elder 400's slowly retire. This particular 400 of mine, a very late 2000 build, probably one of the last built wont be going anywhere. I feel a connection to this car unlike any other.
Thank you Lexus, thank you so much.

It's really 26 years of evolution if you consider our 2000 LSs were designed and developed during the 80s. Love mine and since it only has 34,000 miles it shouldn't be going anywhere for many years to come. I've driven mine 1,000 miles in the last here weeks and love the ride. Amazing what Lexus brought us way back then. Sad to see that there aren't many nice ones left.

Whats too bad about it all, is the "LEXUS" and that was just the LS400 in the day was a trend setter, and a nice looking car. Now they have all the same construction techniques of pretty much every other car on the road, except for the butt ugly front ends. I just hope that is changed soon, like for next year.

I don't have the 460 but do have the '98 400 and an' 04 430... and I much prefer the ride, comfort, style of the 400 over the 430.... so much so, that I'm thinking of selling the 430 because I just don't drive it that much... turning into a garage queen that gets backed out and cleaned and then put back in the garage. The 400 with over 200k miles serves me quite well and has turned into my daily when I don't choose the Miata...

i think toyota went too hard in the 90s and now they've run out of ideas lol... all it takes is a look at the brochures of the cars from back in the day and the problem becomes evident, a current awd LS is no faster than the one that came out nearly 20 years ago, yet they've made it look really sporty and fitted less comfortable seats. in the brochure for the 99 LS they proudly state how it's faster than the s class and 7 series, which was true back then. now a current s class will completely leave a current LS in the dust, come on Lexus! and current lexus front ends are ghastly... in the 400 everything seems to have a function with nothing there that doesn't need to be, now they got these radical designs that aren't nearly as fast as they look, and are less comfortable and WAY bigger and heavier

Car design? I don't think they can do that anymore. All the manufactures have just copied themselves. Lexus would be better off going retro rather than copy
a ford or chevy or what ever. Gosh if they need to copy someone, copy the challenger, try to make a nice roof again, why the constant bubble look to a roof?
I really don't get it.
