Default New OEM brake pads question

Folks:

Just put new brake pads on all 4 corners and the squeal with the earlier non-OEMs are gone. However, when reversing and changing direction, the first touch of brake makes a clunk noise. Mechanic says this is normal as the pads settle when changing directions, but non-OEMs did not do that (they had the loud squealing the first few times instead). I know this is a lot better, but wanted to check if this is normal. My other cars do this with OEM pads, but just wanted to verify since the LS was not doing that since I bought it in Feb.

Thanks.

Check that the mechanic re-installed those spring pins. They put tension on the pads to move them away from the rotor.

Thanks, will take a look at this grease.

Also, this morning while moving the car on the driveway, noticed some squealing! This is not good. In all my Hondas/Acuras, OEM brake pad changes have never had any squealing issues ...

it's been humid here lately and i've noticed more squealing (some is normal for me esp when cold) now. it's normal and should go away as the brakes heat up.

as for the clunk, that should be minimized with some grease as indicated by the TSB. you can also bend the pad springs (front calipers only), to add more tension. grease the spots that contact the pad sides, as well as the pins.

most honda/acuras run sliding calipers similar to our rear calipers. for the 95-up LS models, we have opposed 4-piston calipers which need more greasing. make sure your rear calipers are greased as well.

Agree that it probably needs more grease. Here's the rest of that service bulletin to show where Lexus recommends greasing.

Thanks for all your help with this. The noise was primarily coming from the front. My Lexus technician installed new front shims (missing earlier) and anti-squeal springs (missing earlier) and generous application of grease. Changing direction clunking is gone as is any brake squeal. Hope it stays that way
