Default Changed My 1995 Ls400 Fuel Filter Today

Not fun... why does the filter have to be located above the exhaust and all the suspension components? really tested the flexibility in my wrists.
i wasnt having any issues with fuel delivery but changed it for fun i guess

Tool used were 14mm and 17mm flare nut wrenches
17mm combo wrench
19mm combo wrench
jack
jack stands
catch pan

The day before I sprayed a bunch of penetrating oil on the connections

new filter installed

ONLY lost about 5 quarts of gas.... ROFL took forever, with gas running down my arms and neck... sucked

old filter, i couldn't find any markings on it other than "KUG" ??

cut open... didn't seem very dirty.

Informative post...I've got a fuel filter in the package, waiting to go in. At the moment, though, it would kind of be like doing a manicure on a lady going in for heart surgery!

Doesn't look like a fun job at all. I'm surprised how rust free the under side of your car looks. Do you drive it in the winter?

Thanks for showing us, as suspected. Long ago the mechanic that services ours relayed that fuel filters with stateside gas don't get clogged. When I brought up the service interval to change it he said save your $, he's not seen one that needed it. That reminds me that I have a new Toyota fuel filter somewhere in the depths of the garage to look for.

good to know where it is! i was concerned that i needed to change mine, but thanks RA40 for easing my mind.

i am curious why you need a 17mm flare nut wrench. the banjo bolt can be removed with a regular close ended wrench eh?

you are correct, i had the 17mm flare on hand but I liked the angle of the regular closed wrench better anyway...

haha i see, you can tell just by looking at your pics what tools you need. i don't have a 17mm flare nut wrench in my arsenal so i was a bit surprise to read you needed one. good work nonetheless!

I don't have too much trouble with changing out the fuel filter. I have trouble getting those copper sealing washers that come with the replacement filters to seal the banjo fitting. You really have to reef on the bolt to get it to stop seeping.

Now I just throw away those copper washers and use aluminum seal washers instead. Aluminum seems not to need a lot of over tightening to get them to seal.

The other issue with fuel filters is having my armpits filling up with fuel while loosening the fittings.
