Question about wheel bearing
After a several month hiatus, I once again have a question for those of you with the UCF20 or experience in wrenching on one. I've got a '98 LS400 and since buying the car in January, have not had to do anything other than routine maintenance.
Having said that, about a month ago the front started exhibiting a whining noise typical of a bad wheel bearing. To my ears, it sounded like it was coming from the driver's side front wheel. I surmised it was a wheel bearing, but took it to my local garage to make sure. Upon getting it up on lifts, they found out it was coming from the passenger's side front.
I ordered a wheel bearing and wheel seal for the job from RockAuto and proceeded to contact my mechanic to do the work (my condo doesn't allow wrenching on cars in our parking spots). He quickly got the parts installed and I picked up my car last week from him. Long story short, the noise persisted, although for some reason it seems to have lessened. For extra insurance, I also replaced my two front tires, as they had reached the wear bars and needed replacement. Despite replacing the wheel bearing and tires, the noise is still there.
Does anyone have a similar experience to mine? The noise isn't excessive by any means, and is a slight whine up until around 45-50 mph, and then it goes away. If any of you guys can relate to my predicament, your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
As always, thank you in advance to all you who respond.

I posted this on another thread.
...
This has been happening on and off. Tires and brakes are okay. A garage a couple of weeks ago said it was one of the rear bearings. You hear a sound like you are coasting with steel wheels on a railroad track, again audible only on a quiet road.
Anyone know if this is okay to continue to drive with. Any what happens if or when it gets worse.
Thanks in advance.

Wheel bearings usually give a nice long warning before they go out.
As far as the 98 noise, it could be the driver side one, it could be in the rear, it could be anything that is rotating as the car is rolling, tires, brakes, cv shafts, drive line, rear end, and the list goes on. They make special tools to try to locate noises when rolling down the road.
