Default VIN number on motor?

I am wondering where can I find the VIN number on my motor? My macanic told me the motor in my car is not the original one. I am just curious to see what happened to the original car for this motor.

Thanks

as i recall that's just the engine code (1UZ, etc...). I don't believe the older vintage of lexus vehicles had the engines stamped with individual VINs, but may be misinformed.

If you're curious about what happened to your old motor you're pretty much out of luck unless it was replaced by a dealer (in which case you can call Lexus customer support) or find the shop that swapped it in.

idk if you're grouping all LS 400's in the 'vintage' category but i know i've seen a serial type looking number on my engine about where that picture points to. it's definitely not just the standard 1UZ-FE VVT-i cuz thats on the cover which has to be taken off to reveal the number underneath

motor number and VIN number are two separate things. both are individualized.

i believe only the later model cars had their VIN numbers installed to the motor and trans (among other bits like glass, body panels) in addition to the motor/block number to deter thieves from parting out and reselling.

the motors have serial numbers, yes, but not the VIN.

Don't recall seeing a VIN on my '99 or '00 engines.

Ok I know some cars do put the VIN on all their parts. I am not trying to find out what happened with the previous engine I am trying to find it out with my current one. I will like to know how many miles are on it and if possible what happened to the original car that had it.

Thanks
