1998 LS 400 Seats, Fan, Headlights, Horn Malfunctions
Hi.
This is my first post here.
I bought my LS 400 this summer. Some things have come to light after purchase:
1. Horn honks on its own, unexpectedly
2. Headlights, parking lights trigger auto-dim feature all the time - This occurs when lights are set in any position from parking to headlights to auto
a. Auto-dimfeature changes at slightest change in light
3. Seat heaters (both) run for approximately 10 minutes, then shut off
a.Come on maybe one more time within 1 – 1.5 hours for less than 5 minutes
4. Radiator fan constantly on
No codes come up. These issues seem so varied.
Any experiences, advice, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Welcome to the site.
If I knew the 3rd gens I'd help. Actually the first thing I'd do is disconnect the battery and while its disconnected, clean the posts and clamps and make sure there is no corrosion creeping up the wire where the clamp is swaged on, use some battery connection protector and see if that changes anything.
The total system reboot may cure the problems.

Welcome to Club Lexus.
The electrical gremlins certainly are having fun with your car. Some preliminary, how many miles? Any readable engine error codes? Are all the exterior and interior lights working?
My thought is that some critter has found a tasty spot along your wiring harness and has munched the insulator causing shorting. Look all through the engine compartment, remove the front wheel well liners and inspect. Is your car parked outside? May also be a bulb socket which is why I asked if all the lights are working properly.

RA40,
Thanks for the reply and the welcome.
· Car has 112,000 on it
· I have one of those USB, plug-into-the-portreaders and it doesn't show anything
· The fog lights only work when you very carefullyhold the switch on the stalk in just the right spot - I think it's just thephysical part, but that's up for debate, I suppose. I replaced both bulbsbefore finding the switch was wonky
· All other lights work fine, inside and out
· Getting ready to change the oil, so I'lldefinitely take a look around
· I do have to park it outside
· These symptoms have been present since August,so it’s been through dry heat and now cold precipitation (PNW weather – heavy onthe precipitation this time of year)
· Now this doesn’t sound like something with theECU, yeah?
Thanks again!

dicer,
Thank you for the reply and the welcome.
I actually did put a new battery in it lastweekend. The whole shebang with cleaningthe terminals, adding the goo, and even putting felt washers on that bad boy.
I’d hoped that would have some impact. I had it out overnight before installing thenew one. Plenty of time to reset, Ifigured. Other than my having to reset some stuff, nothing changed.
Really has me stumped. Haven’t found anything quite like my symptomsin the forums. I’m loathe to take it tothe dealer to have them check it out as I’m guessing it ain’t cheap.
The problems are all so varied. I’m thinking RA40 might be on to somethingregarding wires somewhere…

I think I would disassemble the steering wheel and check all the electronics there--clockspring, etc.
On the fan running, check the electrical connection on the bottom of the radiator. If that's off or loose, the fan will run at all times.

aptoslexus,
I've heard of a connection (sensor for the radiator?) potentially being an issue causing fan probs. I'll do some looking around to see if I can't find something down there.
Thanks!
