Plug and play...order special bolt from Lexus for third mounting ear. The owner comments the electronics have perked up a bit at idle...
2004-2006 LS430 alternators are incompatible 4-wire connectors.

If I can add another 30% capacity,factory,plug and play,Im going for it.I see ZERO downside and only an upside.Says the man who always upgrades his charging system to the best,most reliable vrs output in every vehicle I have ever owned.And I dont even have a Doctorate to figure that out.
My next alternator will be the 430 upgrade without question.Well done gentleman for this superb thread.

1-Now I understand. You live in the horribly cold climate of California. LOL!
2-Do you really think that Toyota engineers with the equivalent of doctorate degrees are stupid and that Toyota would risk putting an inadequate alternator on its "flagship" vehicle?
3-If your alternator does not have adequate output, then it might be defective and need replacement. I've been active on this and other Lexus forums for up to 15 years and do not remember anyone wanting to put an LS430 alternator on an LS400.
4- I've done needless "improvements" to cars that might seem silly to others.

2-Right,no manufacturer ever puts in the smallest alternator that does the job MOST OF THE TIME.Not to mention the superb placement under the PS pump.Rates right up there with that ridiculous 24F battery they put in these things.Starter anyone?Lots of Doctoral genius going on there.
3-And now thanks to Yoda's excellent efforts to make our vehicles better,you have now seen FOUR on this thread alone.
4-Nothing like a 'needless' upgrade to a 30% improvement in alternator/charging system.A no cost,plug and play charging system upgrade,how silly a 'needless' 'improvement' can you get?

I have a 99 as well. The original alternator is still alive, but has taken its fair share of ps fluid over the years, so I'm keeping a close eye on it just waiting for the day to replace.
Did you follow YODA's steps listed here to get the job done? And everything went according to plan? Certainly keeping this page bookmarked for when it's my turn...

Yes I followed the steps on here and the part numbers were especially helpful.everything went to plan. I like to stick with OEM as far as alternators go.
just make sure you install the bolt in the correct spot, you'll know if you put the bolt in the wrong spot, trust me
i actually have an extra bolt and nut I could sell you if you wanted.

Both readily available and cheap from the dealer. Lexus will obviously carry them but you can purchase from Toyota as well.
My local Toyota dealer (Right Toyota Scottsdale) online price-

I like to remind others that you don't always have to go to a Lexus dealer, especially those who don't have one local. Toyota dealerships are EVERYWHERE !!!

I was looking at buying an OEM steering shaft part and it would not show up in the Toyota system because it was lexus-specific apparently

Agreed and yes I should've specified...
Not all Lexus parts are available from Toyota dealers but I always check with them first as Toy usually sells the part cheaper.
