DIY inner tie rod (rack end) help ! 92 LS400
Is there a DIY for removing the right inner tie rod on a 92 LS400?
I've changed a few of these on different cars where the boot just slips off to expose the tie rod so you can place a tool on it.
On this car there is a bracket from the steering damper that stops the boot from coming off.
So, do I need to detach the outside boot clamp and push the boot back enough to get on the aluminium nut that tightens up against that bracket.
Will this also give me access to put a wrench on the tie rod and screw it out.
It looks like the boot isn't removed.
I assume that the standard inner tie rod removing tool you can "borrow" from Pep Boys (or others) won't work because of that bracket.
I have looked everywhere for the DIY procedure but there isn't one. At least I can't find one.
Can anyone help with the procedure?
Thanks.

Hi Gmach,
I apologize in advance, as I have not performed this job myself; however, I have looked at this thread before, which should help you:
Tie Rod Inner Replacement
I hope that someone else can provide more insight on this repair. I can try to look into this more myself, if I have some time on the side.
Good luck!

Thanks Celsior. I appreciate wahetever you can find.
I did read that thread but they manage to discuss the job without mentioning the specifics of the procedure. No mention of the bracket, how to get at the retainer bolt behind the bracket (although someone did mention, in passing, that it was LHT ) how to remove the tie rod once the nut is off. Any special tools that would be needed. I'm surprised there isn't a more specific thread on this part since it seems to be a fairly common failure on these older LS400's. I may put one together once I've figured it out...can't be that hard. But I just like to know of any potential problem areas...I hate surprises...problems I can deal with.
