LED Bulbs for Reverse Lights?
Hi All,
I know the stock reverse lights on my 1999 LS400 were weak but I was reversing down my friends driveway a few weeks ago and it was pitch black and I couldn't see a damn thing.
A few of my friends suggested a 5-arm spider 7440 LED. Will this fit? Has anyone used it? Ex. http://www.automotivelightstore.com/7440spiderleds.aspx
Or something like this: https://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/...200,184,99999:
I need brightness but more importantly I need PROJECTION!
Please let me know what you guys have done to address this issue on your LS's.
Thanks

OP, both those bulbs you linked will be a terrible alternative as they will not be as bright as OEM. they will be a nicer color but as far as output they will lack in performance.
i personally have a set of LED reverse lights, but utilizing a single CREE led. it is bright but really does not project as you probably need. there are others using multiple high powered LEDs but be prepared to pay a premium for them. mine alone was $30 for just two!
last option, if you really want projection, is a secondary light but will look odd hanging from the back bumper.

Timmy,
I agree with your last statement. I think the best solution is to put a short LED bar right above my license plate and wire it into my reverse lights. Any idea which ones are good? Most I research are for the front and are very long.
Thanks for the help

Updates on led back up lamps?
Does anyone recommend a credible LED lamp plug and play replacement for incandescent back-up bulbs? Projector types would be ideal.
In addition to inadequate light output, these incandescent bulbs draw 2 X 21 watts.
42 watts of incandescents is inadequate backing illumination. (Never heard Ralph Nader complain about this one)
This circuits via transmission selector switch, instead of a relay...and Yamae suggests this is considerable wattage for the switch (design)

Quality LEDs draw about 10% power consumption for equivalent lumens (light output) vs incandescent bulbs. (wattage rating is power consumption, not light output).
Vendors?
