So after replacing the suspected Iead everything is running perfectly now. Idle is a bit low but at least it's running nice and smooth as it should be.

Yes I'm certain it was the mechanic that caused the damage but when I called them immediately after picking the car up to tell them it was running rough their response was "it wasn't running at all when it got here so how do we know it wasn't always like that". So I can see that trying to get them to accept responsibility for this will be more trouble than it's worth.
