this topic reminds me of the soon-to-be-defunct scion brand, where folks always said they are just toyotas.

Scion was really a half baked brand with a pseudo-youth vibe that failed. They could have just marketed them as Toyotas.
I would be more than happy to drive an Aristo or a Celsior as a used car. In fact some kids do just that.
They import or buy RHD Japanese vehicles for their cool bling factor. Had a nice young kid tell me one night that he had his Aristo V300 for sale and he had noticed my GS430. Told him I already had a quick car, and he said, "yeah but it's not an Aristo and it doesn't have the twin turbo".
There's a nice cool factor to a Nissan Leopard or Skyline. Could have been the same with Aristo and Celsior. Neat names for understated rides with people would have said: that's a Toyota?

They are only showing their inherent envy and ignorance. Easy to talk bad about something or someone that threatens you. We know the truth and that truth sets us free...at least while we're in the LS anyways.
Doesn't really bother me. I've got nothing to prove to them. I know what I've got.

ill never forget when I won a $100 bet. someone I know said "lexus never made anything that was RWD" and "never made anything with a v8" and scoffed at me. I told him he was wrong and he kept saying no way no way. he was so confident he pulled out a $100 bill, slapped it on the hood and said "its a FWD v6"..
I popped the hood and he looked like he was going to pass out. I took the $100 and did a huge burnout leaving tire tracks for about a block.

Did you have to use that $100 to buy new tires?

It's a sleeper in it's own right, the chassis is extremely solid and stiff. I've driven the ls400 quite hard; the sidewalls roll under, the suspensions compress like cheese... everything gives except the extremely rigid chassis (of course could be improved with bushing upgrades, spot welds, and reinforcements of that nature etc.)
People will always have some form of fecal matter to say for anything and everything in life.

Go for it
I just bought my first Lexus this summer after two decades of PU trucks & vans. I stumbled on a 05 ES and love it. Now that I been learning more about these cars on this site I'm kinda glad I started with an ES because I still have the LS experience to look forward to in the future. I definitely know when I peek in on the LS forum I will be reading a love story. Hopefully in a few year I can join in on the LS fun....

well i was parked next to this earlier and it got me thinking about this thread lol
i can see why people "not in the know" might think it's just a nice camry. i say it's better that way, it'll keep prices down

Yeah, the LS looks exactly like a Camry. NOT! There was this guy where I work (drove a Camry) who kept insisting on the same thing. He retired 2 weeks ago and took his Camry with him. Lol. To me the Camry and the ES series (Windom in JN?) have a lot more in common - looks wise.
