I did the top stuff first disconnect the battery, remove the belt, then under the car, if I remember there maybe lines in the way and may have to remove a few brackets, but it all came out easy not very difficult.

I think the steering pump pulley or belt tensioner is on the way. one bolt and one nut holding alternator plus cable.

Just buy the pump seal kit. There is a thread on how to fix the pump leak.

It does come out the bottom as I just replaced mine on the 98. It was a right fit and I was also removing the PS pump and replacing it at the same time. If you don't fix your PS pump leak you'll be replacing your alternator again real soon. Better just do them both at the same time.

Might be helpful... you'll want to remove it anyways so you can transfer it to the new alternator.
Personal recommendation is to avoid parts from Autozone. O'Reilly's / Napa and rockauto online are better choices. It's pretty well known that Autozone is not the premier option for parts. My own experience, specifically with alternators when I went through 3 of them before I got a good one. And then there is this lawsuit filed last year in Illinois.

There are plenty of other parts houses besides Autozone.

I have done LS starter and alternator both from Oreilly's and had zero problems with them. And very likely what ever rebuilder does them for Rock auto is the same for all the other outfits too. The big difference is with the car parts places you get it now, not in a week or so and yeah pay a bit more sometimes.

Ok going to remove the shield for more wiggle room,i seen guys use shields from bleach bottles, does it go in place of the existing shield or on top of the shield???? Well i never had problems with my autozone, the alternator on here is 5 years old from az but this leak killed it,brake booster, starter, brake calipers/brake pads all from autozone with lifetime warranty so im going to give the power steering pump a try to

Same goes for the 98-2000 Lexus gs/ls models v8's

except the valve cover leaks and drips on the alternator.

One bit of warning on the alternator, when I replaced mine from a discount house, the pulley was different and I had to transfer the old pulley to the new alternator.

Yes check the new one against your old one, and if its different take it back. If you change something yourself you could void the warranty.

I took the PS pulley off to get mine out. It takes 30 seconds.
