I've been told to remove this cover since I'm blocking airflow, BUT - I have a brand new alternator waiting for my original to finally conk out. Hasnt given me an issue since I cleaned it up with brake cleaner, let dry for 3 days, and installed my janky crap cover. I gave no regard to spacing, simply cut something up and jammed it on there before installing.

No issues in the last 5 months with the cover on. New alternator is still sitting unused on my shelf.
