If you trunk hard to lift they take the strain and looks good as it pops fully open

Actually sounds like a great fix - i do have a tired trunk. I will try to look for them.
Edit: it actually looks like my trunk takes a strut, much like the hood strut. Shoney how do these springs fit? Post a picture.

LS400 trunks use shocks to assist opening. You can get generic versions for under $80
