Any suggestions ? I've read about the cheaper places offering them for about 400-550 are scams and not sure if its worth it to save $

If there are still new ones they will be a costly dealer deal. Only other options are used, from wrecking yards or online stuff.

you will need to the part number on your ECU matches. I bought some off ebay. you can search by the PN#

ebay with a part number match, have a reputable shop (vendor TaninAuto is well regarded) rebuild your existing ECU, or a wrecking yard. You can use www.car-part.com to search multiple yards at once.

NO reporgramming required in '89-96 USDM cars. Just swap and go provided you're replacing like for like.

I don't think Tanin is a rebuilder for ecu's. That is a very highly specialized deal, and takes some specialized test equipment. Tanin just does the cap replacements as far as I know. A true rebuilder will test all aspects of the ecu
and will have back engineered the schematics. To find a reputable outfit go to a good well know auto parts store and ask who does the ecu rebuilds.
