Front strut bushing
I think that is the weakest thing on these cars, it is a very highly loaded chunk of rubber.
Does anyone make a urethane replacement? Also I wonder if it hurts it much to have the front of the car jacked up for a while, since the bolts are tightened with the front end loaded?

Okay did the search, and it mentioned tightening up the upper nut. I am talking about the rubber bushing that one half of the front end weight of the car sits on and it is amplified by the fact that there is a leverage ratio of the lower control arm that is inward from the contact of the tire. It is the one in the eye of the strut.

There's a significant difference in the 1st and 2nd gen front suspension design. There are aftermarket rubber bushings available for the 1st gen cars that work quite well for relatively little money. The 2nd gen only has aftermarket polyurethane bushings that do not work well or last overly long. Luckily the OEM rubber bushings for the 2nd gen are very reasonably priced (~$35-50/each) and the entire front strut rod assy. is available for

Billy, wouldn't you think poly's would be a bit better than the solid steel that the upper control arms have? I can't see how stronger material being at the bottom eye that takes many thousands of pounds of force would be bad. I am surprised the rubber keeps the bolt tube from contacting the metal portion of the strut (which it does not do after many miles down the road), these new ones I have already look a bit funny and they have maybe 20 miles on them.

the secret is Toyota designers planned the front end and made the right parts to work correctly and give the car a good ride for many miles... it is not an oversight that the SRB's are the weak part in the front end.. it is just like brake pads, they need replacing at times... I dont think you will be able to improve the LS400..
