so ive been told its my transmission mount that is causing this feeling. guess its rubber and not too hard to change out. thing is, I actually like the mechanical feel it makes. I was told it wont hurt anything but anyone know of any long term affects of this? will it hurt anything?

It can stress the motor mounts, which aren't as easy. Also, could cause misalignment of drivetrain components, which is never good. I think it cod stress some exhaust parts, too. I'd replace it. It's a cheap part and takes less than 20 minutes with a jack, piece of wood and common hand tools.

If you get a thump when accelerating from a dig it's probably the motor mounts being separated, basically the motor is bouncing off them. The trans mount symptoms for me were just vibration. I don't think hard shifting would be a symptom of either, more likely the transmission itself.

it doesn't ever skip gears just shifts a little hard. im scared to flush the tranny or even drain and refill due to its age and how long its been.. it doesn't leak a drop and I found out the tranny hasn't been flushed since 2004. my car is 95% still OEM with 197k. only thing that's ever been changed is the rack and power steering pump, a few belts and hoses and brake pads. i got the car 3 years ago in absolutely pristine condition. it was driven to death for the first 9 years and then put away for about ten years. the car is one of the most original ones ive ever seen, however at the time i got it i didn't know it hadn't had a major service since 2004. still hasn't and hasn't really needed one yet but i know the **** storm is coming....

Mine wasn't flushed in a similar amount of time and mileage... came out looking pretty brown. No problems so far with about 5k miles after a 'partial' flush (I cycled about 9 qts in/out of it 1 qt at a time, so probably got most of it). It shifts smoother now too, especially on downshifts -- used to jerk from time to time but not anymore.
