This shows the assembled modified air filter housing being sealed along the bottom 2/3rds by the foam.

A different angle showing how the foam forms a seal for the stock air inlet feed box. Of course minimal air flows through the box now as most comes around the opening made by removing the headlight seal but you want to seal off the hot underhood air from entering the air filter cold air feed space.

With the stock air filter feed box attached you can see the seal made by the shape of the foam.

Do not be distracted by the foam I have wrapped around the TB feed pipe. This is one more minor thing you can do but the thing I want you to notice in THIS picture is the foam edges between the filter housing and stock air box feed.

This is a VERY easy mod and is much cheaper and BETTER than available aftermarket intakes. While not as flashy it makes more power.

Yes, I know my filter is dirty and is ready for replacement in these pictures.

BTW, I have driven many miles in very heavy rain with this set up and water does not reach the filter.

Any guesses what the under hood temps are at that area?

Wonder how some of the ABS type plastics or other phenolics might be. Some of the ABS stuff can be heat worked to shape. Otherwise aluminum but that is a heat conductor so that may not be the nicest material.

I have been wanting to gut and reform the original air snorkel or modify the front to take air that passes by the headlight also.

I wonder If I can do that with an aftermarket intake?

Look at the picture right above your post and the one below. Except for the foam that I wrapped around the MAF tube you really cannot see anything to speak of and it looks completely factory.
