Default 1990-1992 Rocker Panels Paint

Greetings,

Does anyone know what kind of paint Lexus applied to the rocker panels on 1990-1992 model year LS 400s? It looks black, but there seems to be a texture to it.

Thanks.

Not sure but I believe stone chip/undercoat would be likely candidates.

Okay, thank you very much, PureDrifter!

I found 3M Rocker Panel Coating online, which I might give a go.

Does anyone know of any Lexus OEM documents that state the exact product used, as well as the application procedure?

The 3M product looks close, but I'm not sure of how it will look.

I wonder if that Toyota tec site has anything on the paint? The body collision repair manuals have nothing on it.

Thanks, Dicer. Darn, I was hoping it would be in the body collision documents.

I didn't see it on the ToyotaReference site, but I'll have a look through all of the brochures. It's bound to be somewhere.

EDIT: I looked through all of the brochures, but it wasn't there. I may have a look at the Celsior brochures next.

I have a correction the manual did mention anti chip paint, but that is it. I was hoping for a manufacture or some kind of number. What is needed is a dealer that does body and paint work to look in their information.

Not much in the body section. This generic description is the closest thing I can find:

I really don't think Sherwin Williams supplied lexus in Japan with the paint. We need a dealer that really knows what it is.

No worries, thanks Dicer. Is the part of the manual you are looking at another page from the section aptoslexus shared?

Thanks, Billy - I really appreciate it. Don't worry about checking with them too much, though.

Thanks for the page, aptoslexus! I'm going to save this for the future; however, the undercoating is different than what is put on the rocker panels and the lower section of the fender, so I believe different procedures may apply.

Just a minor update:

I stopped by a shop today to check on the rocker panel coating. They confirmed that it was indeed an anti-road chip coating (A.K.A. rocker panel coating), and it seems a regular coating that is sold will match just fine (if applied following the instructions from the product, such as the 3M coating).

I'll update this thread with any more info, if I find it in Lexus/Toyota documents, but I am satisfied that the shop could verify it. Thank you PureDrifter, Dicer, BillyDPowe, and AptosLexus for your help to point me in the right direction.
