New power steering "vane" pump from Lexus is $414.

See the attached parts diagram....if the vanes are worn then parts cost could exceed new...

Yeah maybe the 98 to 2000 is cheaper, look up the one for a 90. There is no way to tell if the pump at a wrecking yard is oem. The Reillys pump looks just like the one I took out. No special marks. A 500 plus dollar pump in a 1000 dollar car is a bit much. I don't know what I'm going to do yet. It worked great till that plug popped out. Oh and no big savings going to Rock auto either, they all cost about what I spent on the Reillys one.

Yes, if you need to replace anything that is not in the seal kit it is cost prohibitive. A lot of the aftermarket pumps that I have seen are painted while OEM is bare aluminum. That's a good way to tell if it could be OEM. Also look at the crush washer seal style. If they are separate they are aftermarket. OEM's are that one piece copper seal setup. Those usually tear when reused while ones that haven't been touched will tear if reused. The problem anymore is that these cars are of such age that most have had the pump replaced and little to non were replaced with an OEM pump. But there is a plenty good chance to find an OEM pump in the junk yard. For instance, my mothers car has 240k miles with the original pump.

Might be worth checking the screen down in the rack. In fact I need to check mine. If it's starting to clog that could explain why seals keep blowing out...

I tried awhile back its way too tight, it would be nice to have the special tool for that. Not seals keep blowing it just happened when the plug came out a bit and the snap ring came out on one side, the plug is at an angle and fluid was pumping out.
